Navy Federal debit card fee settlement overview

Navy Federal Credit Union has agreed to pay $5.5 million to settle a class action lawsuit alleging it improperly assessed debit card fees known as International Service Assessment (ISA) fees. The lawsuit claimed that Navy Federal charged these fees on foreign purchases even when accountholders were physically located in the United States, between August 9, 2016, and March 24, 2023.

Who qualifies for the settlement

Eligible accountholders may receive compensation under the settlement terms:

  • A $4.00 base payment for each valid claim submitted
  • Additional payments depending on the number of claims filed and the amount of ISA fees actually incurred

Class members must submit a valid claim form by August 8, 2024, to receive payment. Notices have already been sent to identified members of the settlement class.

Settlement deadlines and claim process

  • Claim form deadline: August 8, 2024
  • Final approval hearing: July 24, 2024
  • Payments will be distributed after court approval and administrative processing
